Taormina, women at the center of the XIII edition of the Taobuk Festival

TAOBUK AWARD

In the edition 2023 of the Taobuk Festival the coveted Taobuk Award for Literary Excellence will be awarded to three female figures who are distant in their human and artistic journey and yet similar. They will be the French Annie Ernaux, Nobel prize 2022 for Literature, the Iranian Azir Nafisi and the American Joyce Carol Oates. Each of them drew inspiration from the autobiographical experience to transfer it to the story of the social and collective bonds that condition existence. And each one, in different ways, she actively worked for the full emancipation of women. Annie Ernaux continues to be at the forefront of many battles for gender equality. Azar Nafis he chose exile in the United States to escape persecution by the ayatollah regime. Joyce Carol Oates explored uncomfortable issues such as the oppression and commodification of women in a society driven by power and money. For Science, the North American essayist and popularizer David Quammen will be awarded.

THE THEME OF THE TAOBUK FESTIVAL
