La Villa

Built in the far 1860,Villa Maria was in the beginning a storehouse of the great estate of Prince Grimaldi.  Before becoming home to the guardians of the Prince’s villa, it’s long history touches the apex during the Second World War: in this period it becomes in fact an ophthalmic clinic – there are several objects of this activity still on site – and, given its favourable position. Adjacent to the railroad and halfway between the sea and volcano a strategic point for the Germans, sensitive target of the allies, miraculously survived their bombardments. After the conflict the shops located on the ground floor -overlooking the course of Italy – get rented to a shoemaker and a barber along with a part of the upper floor.

Coming to the present day, in 1981 the owners returns to manage Villa directly, taking care of the garden and perfecting it with various precious additions. Arranging the premises through a targeted restructuring that leads to the re-establishment of the last recent transformation – the B&B Villa Maria.

Il Giardino

Delicate garden, clean and well-kept, it borders the north-east side of the villa. Small elegant corner of green planted in 1890, finished with a cobblestone pavement mounted in 1902. Endowed with a colorful variety of flowers and plants among which a revoluta  Cycas of over 100 years stand out, an Arbutus ( typical Sicilian plant) and a nearly centennial Camellia japonica,a Lauri’s nobilis,an orange, a mandarin, a lemon and much else. Heterogeneous mixture of colours and aromas on which most of the balconies overlook  and of the windows of the building enriched by the presence of a typical Mediterranean gazebo covered with jasmin and white climbing rose. This garden is a graceful and harmonious show in any season of the year.
