Taormina, inaugurated the Teatròs exhibition

“The Mediterranean has been the scenario in which I have spent most of my life, and I have dedicated thousands of works on paper to its lands and cities, canvases and above all many notebooks that have accompanied me on my travels.” This is how Pedro Cano introduces his exhibition, sixteen large-format watercolors that tell through images of the theaters of classical antiquity that the Spanish artist visited in over thirty years of travel. A sort of artistic odyssey through some of the most significant Greek and Roman sites overlooking the Mediterranean.

The exhibition “Theaters”, edited by Giorgio Pellegrini, it is a journey to be undertaken through the sensations first recorded by the artist in his travel notebooks.

“Since his youth – writes Giorgio Pellegrini in the notes accompanying the exhibition project – The Theater thus aroused a strong cultural interest in Pedro Cano, when in 1988 the director Maurizio Scaparro asks him to create the sets for The Life of Galileo by Bertolt Brecht for the Theater of Rome, he enthusiastically takes the opportunity to immerse himself in that world. The happy partnership with Scaparro was consolidated the following year with the staging of Margarite Yourcenar's Memoirs of Hadrian, protagonist Giorgio Albertazzi. This time Pedro Cano does not limit himself to designing the shapes but also intervenes on the fabrics so that the stage costumes are perfectly integrated into the "Maritime Theatre" of Villa Adriana in Tivoli. With 'Teatròs' the visitors of Taormina will live the experience of a sentimental reportage around the immense blue mirror of the Mediterranean whose borders must not be understood only as merely geographical but also conceptual and proper to a space that has been and is a crossroads of ideologies, culture, religions and arts".
