Taormina, today the exhibition on the history of the Ancient Theater is underway

The exhibition on the history of the Ancient Theater organized by the opens today in Taormina Naxos Taormina Archaeological Park. The project involves the new layout and museum display of the western entrance to the cavea.

THE EXHIBITION

On display are the most important inscriptions for understanding the millennial history of the Theater and some of the fragments of the architectural decoration of the monument, including precious marbles from the imperial age. An investigation that, in the phase of rearranging the materials and recovering the spaces in the versura, also reserved some surprises for scholars. For example, il ritrovamento dell’iscrizione di Paternus, an important epigraph that was thought to have been lost since the 19th century and with which scholars can review the previous hypotheses on the restructuring phase of the theater in the 2nd century AD., that is, in the form in which it has come down to us. Or discovery, on the walls of the space intended for the installation, of writings on the walls documenting the restoration and opening of the western versura to visitors as early as 1869.

The “Palinsesti” exhibition is completed by an outdoor audiovisual itinerary, punctuated by signposts with QrCode that suggest a "guided" re-reading of the monument. A sort of journey through time to relive the fascination of one of the most iconic archaeological sites of the old continent. The narration ideally ends in the verse where two very new generation LED walls are installed for the projection of as many videos. The first is the one made in 2017 from the Park and the CNR for the G7 with the spectacular 3D reconstruction (digital restoration) of the monument. The second brings together period photos and recent shots to reconstruct the modern history of the versura with a focus on the newly found writings on the walls.
