Piedimonte Etneo, the literary review 'Un libro fa Presa' is underway’

The first edition of has begun “A book grips”, the new exhibition that will transform the village of Jack, on Etna, in an evocative literary salon. The five evenings will range from emerging writers to higher-ranking proposals, with the aim of combining the love of reading with the valorization of the territory. From the debutants Pennisi and Sgandurra, to quality Sicilian authors such as Tringale and La Rosa, up to nationally renowned names such as Roberta Corradin. To promote the event, totally self-financed, the associations “The village of Presa” e “Pro Crazy Dam”, committed to the relaunch and regeneration of the hamlet in the Piedimonte Etneo area.

« 'A book takes hold’ will have as its underlying theme the concepts of transformation and evolution – explain the curators – The context is that of a Sicilian village that goes from depopulation to rediscovery. New businesses open, the interest of many visitors is growing, tourists, new residents. A change triggered by the commitment of Presa citizen-volunteers in many initiatives such as the exhibition, totally self-financed and driven by love for the village. This is how we show and make our country known to an increasingly wider audience.". The review, sponsored by the Municipality of Piedimonte Etneo, will also be dedicated to “Borgo dei 100 Faces”, homage to Thierry Cron's volume. The internationally renowned French photographer, resident in Presa, during the lockdown, he photographed all the inhabitants of the Etna village and then gathered the many portraits into a book.

PROGRAM 'A BOOK ENGAGES’

The five evenings of the event will be itinerant in the village: the next presentation will be held on 8 July in the former Presa school, converted into the headquarters of the associations, with Catania Gabriella Tringale and the novel “The smell of stones”, speech by Gaetano Giuseppe Magro. Saturday 15 July the journalist Roberta Corradin instead it will present the novelty in the bookshop “Sicilian cannoli” (Joints) in piazza Maria Ss. Thanks, conversing with Emanuela Pistone Ferraù. Followed by a social dinner with the specialties of the mothers of the village of Presa. The 22 July appointment at the Belvedere in via Ragonesi with Louis LaRosa and the text “In the fury of the storms. Brief life of Vincenzo Bellini” (Piemme). Anna Vasta and Teresa Sciacca will intervene; in the end, Friday 28 July Jacopo Pennisi will close the exhibition in the former school with the volume “Scent of a Journey: A biker's inner map of India”. Presents Emanuela Pistone Ferraù, reads Agostino Zumbo. Each evening will be accompanied by tastings entrusted to the Presa cellars and typical local products.

By car you can reach the village of Presa in Piedimonte Etneo (CT) and Villa Maria in about 20 minutes.
